In 1986…

In our first film project we collaborated with the AV-center in Bollnäs. The students wrote the script Bullied and acted. The editing, in VHS technology, was made by the technician.

2004-2006

We borrowed some DV cameras and got help from the journalist and film maker Tove Törngren to film our school exchange with Tebeb Menged school in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The letter exchange, the children’s filming and their exciting journey to Addis eventually became a documentary, Ovanaker-Addis, which was broadcasted in SVT 2006.

The same year, we got help from two students at the Documentary film School of Biskops Arnö. One, Ritha Eriksson, did her ”master thesis” in our school: Sofie Widarsson and Josefin Torp made an English film musical with the children, The Miracle Flower, and Ritha made a meta film about that work. Since then, we have made movies with the children every year.

2007

Here you can see an example from when we eventually got our own DV cameras: We filmed a MATH-SCIENCE-ENG project in 2007, Water. (The movie is copied from a DVD.) Vickan, who now studies to become a teacher and works as an assistant in Viksjöfors school, was in grade 5 that year.

2014-2016

We have participated in three film projects in the National Creative School Project together with Josefin Torp:

Nowadays the film work is easier and cheaper. We use computer tablets for filming, editing and publishing.
We often watch movies at the end of English lessons. Thus we simultaneously train English comprehension and – with subtiles in Swedish – faster Swedish reading. Most of the time, we watch movies that are associated with the theme we are studying. (For an example see Around the World in 80 Days.)
The purpose of film work in school is, of course, to encourage students to use the film medium outside school as well. We often see examples of that in social media, but also as below in leisure activities:

Leija and Hanna  made this weather report. Rasha did the filming.
